Success with Auto Europe
Yesterday while waiting in vain for the mailman to bring us our visas, we decided to call Auto Europe to reserve our car. We had already done our research, had our two discounts ready (for a total of 10 percent) and knew which car we wanted- the Renault Laguna Wagon (large enough to transport Oliver's crate). The quoted price online for the car for 5 days was $754 so I was anticipating a $75 discount. Reed made the call and did the negotiating and they finally agreed to $695-a little more than we wanted but that was ok. Just before Reed hung up the phone, the Auto Europe customer service person named Carson told Reed to shop around for cheaper prices and that if we found something, Auto Europe would match it or beat it. Within 15 minutes, Reed was online and had found a rate of $510 for the same car, same pick-up and drop off cities, and same number of days. Carson at Auto Europe was shocked, alluding to the fact that in three years no one had ever found a cheaper price and also mentioning that many people have called saying they had a cheaper price but not having any proof. Well, Reed had a nice email from another company clearly stating the quoted price of $510. End result: Thanks to Reed's hard work we are now paying $460 for the same car that they wanted us to pay $790 for!
