Lavorare

In addition to studying at the University per Stranieri, both Reed and I want to work in Siena. Because we will be going to Siena on a student visa, we will receive a permit to stay to study and we will each be able to legally work 20 hours a week. After that, if we find someone who is willing to hire us, it is my understanding that we can turn our permit to stay to study into a permit to stay to work. It is probably not half as easy as I think it is!

Reed has identified a few restaurants that he would like to work at, his top choice right now being Arnolfo Ristorante. Arnolfo, situated in the Chianti hills in the town of Colle Val d'Elsa, is one of Tuscany's most highly regarded restaurants. It is a two star Michelin restaurant owned by Chef Gaetano Trovato. Chef Trovato describes his cuisine as "cucina del territorio rivisita" which means "new regionalism." All of the cooking at the restaurant emphasizes fresh seasonal ingredients and everything is made at the restaurant including bread and pastries.

Arnolfo Ristorante is named for Arnolfo di Cambio, an Italian architect and sculptor, who was born in Colle Val d'Elsa in 1245. In 1296, Arnolfo was in charge of the construction of the cathedral (Duomo) in Florence. He is said to have played a role in the design of other major buildings in Florence, including the baptistry, the Church of Santa Croce, and the Palazzo Vecchio.

The town, Colle Val d'Elsa is about 23km from Siena on the road heading towards Florence. The town is known for the production of glassware.

Below are a few pictures of the restaurant (from the Arnolfo website).
