Supersize Me

In Siena, there is a small supermarket, Conde, which we have gone to twice. It is on the bottom floor, you ride the escalator down. They have a pretty good selection of food, including tortillas, considering the store is about 1/8 the size of Harris Teeter. There is a frozen food area which has a variety of food, including frozen pizzas. This particular pizza caught Reed's eye:

Not sure if this is an indication of anything, but there were only two of these left in the case.

(Per Reed): Please note the corn and unidentifiable meat product, quite possibly hot dog. Hot dog, you say, we've actually seen a number of pizzas, particularly in Parma and Lucca that have hot dogs and/or french fries with a drizzle of ketchup as a toppings. Yum!

Any thoughts?

Yikes! How scary. My friends and I often comment on the sad state of American culture creeping into Italy for many years now. Fast food, working longer hours, McDonalds, Starbucks and now really bad American pizza - in the home of the best and most authentic pizza in the world. Even Italians have told me that one of the problems is that Italians don't take enough pride in their own country, traditions, inventions, art, culture, etc. They often think someone else does it better. How sad.

Funny you mention McDonalds. There is one right near the supermarket and there are always people in there. I was kind of shocked to see the number of frozen pizzas at the store when there are a million pizzerias around here-although the pizza at some of them does taste frozen!
